Under the Poplar is the artist name of Silver Spring, MD-based guitarist and producer Heath Witzen. His music is usually a smoothie blend of rock, indie pop, singer-songwriter, and jazz. Under the Poplar embodies the DIY spirit, with Heath producing, mixing, and mastering the tracks.

The upcoming 2026 EP, “No Heaven” will be Under the Poplar’s first after releasing his first three singles in 2025. The second single, “Outside,” drips with late-night indie rock atmosphere, evoking the neon lights and sounds of a world coming alive after dark. Rhythmic, distorted guitar and bass set the scene alongside the vocal harmonies, while the pulsing beat and lead guitar bring disco elements to the track. “Outside” was written as an ode to city nightlife, with the narrator imagining how revelers feel dancing in a club or laughing loudly beside the bar.
